The end of another running season is upon us. 2013 has been a good year, with better summer weather and the GWR running steam again at Toddington. Special events have boosted attendances, but ordinary Sunday running days could do with more passengers.
Justine ran on the Classic Vehicles day on 15 September. The Thomas weekend of 21/22 September saw trains worked by the Hunslet diesel and Brigadeloks 1091 and Sena 15, complete with face. Eleven trains were run each day, with plenty of passengers filling the carriages.
Behind the scenes considerable time has been expended on form filling in the hope of being eligible to apply for funding for the Wembley carriage. Quotes received for making D wagon type bogies put the price well beyond our financial resources. In the short term there is an offer of some suitable wheels which will enable the carriage to be moved around. Again negotiations off site take time and effort. Also off site, boiler work on Chaka continues to make progress, fingers crossed for its return in due course.
Thanks to everyone who has helped both on and off the site during the year. Now thoughts are turning to winter maintenance and running dates and events for 2014. There is a possibility of having a guest steam loco later next season, basically in exchange for 1091 which will be away participating in an event to commemorate the start of The First World War.
