Due to a locomotive breakdown, we will be unable to provide a train service on Sunday 27 May, apologies for any inconvenience. Our train service will operate over the Jubilee Weekend, on Sunday 3 June, Monday 4 June and Tuesday 5 June, using a steam locomotive.Steam will also be used on Sunday 10 June for the Classic Vehicle Day.
The running season started on Easter Sunday, but the dominant feature to date has been the wet and often cold weather, which has adversely affected our passenger numbers. Trains have been operated by 1091, Justine (which stood in one day for an ailing 1091), and the Hunslet diesel.
Better news concerns the diesels. The Hunslet had its brakes adjusted by Les Driver of the Gertrude loco group and now they work as they should. The 1953 Ruston has had a lot of attention including replacing the head gasket and is now available for traffic. In fact, all our internal combustion locos are in working order, which is quite an achievement.
A new fixed distant signal is being put together and will be erected in due course between California and Didbrook.
With the running season underway, work on the Gloucester carriage has halted, but not before some work was done on the body with the removal of life expired panels on one side.
A reminder that the 50th anniversary celebrations will go ahead with Sunday 7 October being the public operating day. Guest engines are promised, so reserve the date in your diary.
