The regular Sunday service has been somewhat quiet, due to a combination of factors, including the weather and state of the economy. A similar tale has been heard from other railways.
Better news is that the new firebox made by Israel Newton for Chakaskraal No. 6 has been completed and is ready for collection. Hopefully this will accelerate work on the rest of the boiler.
Confirmation has also been received of the visit of a second guest engine for our October gala. It will be the first appearance by this engine since its importation into the UK and extensive overhaul.
Thoughts are turning to next year's running dates when, all being well, the GWSR should be back as one railway with trains running through to Toddington again. Various proposals have been made, but nothing decided yet.
In the spirit of co-operation with other preserved lines, we are donating three ex-railway benches to the Dean Forest Railway for use by passengers, one of these is destined for the newly constructed station at Whitecroft on the Lydney Parkend line.
Our next steam working will be on Sunday 22 July for the Vintage Bus Rally at Toddington, this is usually a great event, well worth attending.
